Ch. 31

Jane starts school and meets Rosamond Oliver.

  • St John loves her- but doesn't think he should. He does not love Jane.

  • As a reader I begin to wonder whether the story of Rochester has been forgotten.

Why do you think the R story has gone into the background? What's Bronte's intention?

I'm not sure. Perhaps to show how much they love eachother- it's just not a whim for either of them.
